My name is Kendra Ramirez — but my friends call me Ken (and now you can, too).
I’m a hospitality professional with a heavy food & beverage focus, and I’ve been in what we restaurant folks lovingly call “the industry” since I was 15 years old. I started in fast food and worked my way through sushi bars, wine bistros, private country clubs, casinos — and a few spots in between that definitely built character. I’ve dipped my toes into just about every environment you can imagine, and somehow always found a way to thrive (usually powered by adrenaline and a questionable amount of caffeine).
These days, I’m an event manager at a freshly remodeled casino tucked into the Sierra Nevadas of California. I work alongside incredible teams to execute events ranging from intimate gatherings of 10 to full-blown functions of 1,000 guests. And honestly? There is no better feeling than watching months of planning come together in one seamless, joy-filled moment. Making special memories for people is kind of my thing.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some of the most amazing humans on the planet. I’ll say it forever: the best people I’ve ever met are in food and beverage. There’s something about being in the trenches together that bonds you for life. When the tickets won’t stop printing, the tables won’t stop turning, and you suddenly remember the side of dressing you forgot for the sweet lady who waited patiently (and now it’s haunting you)… that shared chaos builds character. And camaraderie.
Then comes that end-of-shift victory — the quiet exhale, the laughter, the “we survived” moment. That’s when coworkers turn into family. That energy? You can feel it in a place. It lives in the walls, in the rhythm of service, in the way a team moves together without speaking. It’s the difference between a restaurant and a restaurant with a soul.
And that’s what I hope you’ll find here.
An intimate, honest look at eateries, destinations, and experiences through the eyes of someone who knows what good service really looks like — and feels like. I want to guide you toward the places with a pulse. The ones deeply rooted in their communities, their culture, and their craft.
This isn’t about five-star price tags or unattainable luxury. It’s about meaningful experiences that most of us can actually enjoy. My goal is to broaden your horizons without emptying your wallet — to help you see familiar places in new ways and discover new places worth the detour.
Let me lead you down paths you may not have considered — whether that’s a faraway adventure, a hidden local gem, or just the perfect bite you didn’t know you needed.
One thing you can always count on? I’ll never lie to you about where to eat.
